The first day of Diwali is Dhantrayodashi which means worship of wealth. It is customary to buy valuables like jewellery on this day.

The second day of the Diwali festival is Narak Chaturdashi or Choti Diwali. On this day, people wake up early in the morning and before taking a bath, apply aromatic oil on them to wash away all the sins and impurities in their lives.

The third day of Diwali is called Lakshmi Pujan because on this day Lakshmi the goddess of wealth is worshipped with great devotion. This day is celebrated by lighting lamps and bursting firecrackers.

The fourth day of Diwali is called Gowardhan Puja or Padwa. It is said that on this day, Lord Krishna lifted the huge Govardhan mountain and defeated Indra. Using cow dung, people make a small hill symbolizing Govardhana and worship it.

The Fifth day of Diwali is called Bhaubeej. On this day, sisters greet their brothers by praying for their long and happy lives while brothers give some gifts to their sisters.
