The full form of TVS is Thirukkurungudi Vengaram Sundram. This company was started by Thirukkurungudi Vengaram Sundram Iyengar, so the name of this company was kept as a short form of his initial name.
TVS is one of the largest vehicle companies based in India, which is headquartered in Chennai. The biggest line of production of this company is motorcycles, mopeds, and auto rickshaws. Along with vehicles, this company also manufactures tyres of the vehicles. This company also listed in the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE).
History of TVS Motors ltd.
TVS was started with bus services in Madurai. Thirukkurungudi Vengaram Sundram Iyengar was started the first bus service in city of Madurai. At that time the name of this bus service company was Southern Roadways Limited. Then later in 1978, this company was registered in the name of TVS Motor Limited.
TVS has teamed up with Suzuki to make the design and manufacturing of the bikes even better. Along with India TVS exports vehicles to China, Pakistan, Arab countries, Australia, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Brazil, Peru Chile, etc. The company has always been known for its easy-to-use and eco-friendly motor design.
TVS won Deming Application Prize in 2002. It won the National Award for using indigenous to manufacture TVS Victor from the Technology Development Board, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. TVS Scooty Pep won the ‘Outstanding Design Excellence Award’ from BusinessWorld magazine and the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. It won the TPM Excellence Award given by the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance in 2008.
