What is the full form of DGT?

DGT full form – Directorate General of Training

Direct General of Training (DGT) is a body that works under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). It is a government organization that provides vocational training for development and coordination across India. Under this organization, there are 15000 (Government & Private) Industrial Training Institutes (ITI), 33 National Skills Training Institute (NSTI)/National Skills Training Institute for Women (NSTI-W) all over the country. Through this organization, lakhs of people take training in the industrial sector every year and become eligible to work in many government and private industries. Due to which the shortage of skilled laborers is removed to work at every level in the country without the intervention of any foreign agency.

Functions of DGT are:

  • To formulate overall policies, norms and standards for vocational training.
  • To modify, update and expand the training facilities in the context of craftsmen and craft instructor training.
  • To promote and getting students to apprentices by following the Apprentice Act, 1961.
  • To organize special industrial programs for women.
  • To guide people for vocational training and employement availability.
  • To regulate the orders that come from MSDE and implement then in NCVT.
  • To encourage the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and persons with disabilities for employment or self-employment on the basis of their capabilities.
