What is the full form of DBT?
The full form of DBT is Direct Benefit Transfer. This is the portal launched by the government of India to provide the benefits or fund directly into the bank account of the public as soon as possible.
This portal has been launched for the purpose of transferring the money that comes from the facilities issued by the government, directly to the bank accounts of the citizens. This portal issued by the Government of India is aimed at getting the citizens their money as possible and without any obstacle.
History of DBT
On 1st January 2013, the program DBT was launched by the Government of India. In beginning, this program was started in 20 districts to manage scholarships and social security pensions.
The portal was introduced by Former Union Minister for Rural Development of India Jairam Ramesh and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Kiran Kumar Reddy at Gollaprolu in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on 6 January 2013.
This portal was first reviewed on 15th January 2013. Former Union Finance Minister of India P. Chidambaram announced that this portal will be launched in 11 more districts by 1st February 2013 and 12 more by 1st March 2013.
This program was extended on 1 July 2013 in 78 more districts of the country. This was done by the former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Functions of DBT
- The primary objective of this portal is to bring transparency and eliminate theft in the distribution of funds for schemes, pensions, and scholarships issued by the government.
- To transfer the fund amount or subsidy amount directly to the account of the scheme holder.
- The Central Plan Scheme Monitoring System (CPSMS) will work as a common platform for DBT.
- DBT portal can use CPSMS for the preparation of the beneficiary list, to get the digital sign, and to handle the processes of transferring the money to bank accounts.
The other full form of DBT is the Department of Bio-Technology. This is the department of the Indian government under the ministry of science and technology. This department is responsible for the development and commercialization of modern biology and biotechnology in India.
