What is the full form of BC, AD, CE, BCE?
BC full form – Before the birth of Jesus Christ
BC term is related to the counting of the year. If an event took place before the birth of Jesus Christ, then BC is used to indicate the year of that event. The years before the birth of Jesus Christ are numbered in reverse – as Gautam Buddha was born in 563 BC and died in 463 BC. The current Gregorian calendar (Christian calendar/Julian calendar) is based on the year of birth of the Christian cleric Jesus Christ.
AD full form – Anno Domino
AD stands for Anno Domino, it is a Latin word that means in the year of the Lord (Jesus Christ). AD is used to count the years after the birth of Jesus Christ.
- Example – AD 2021
CE full form – Common Era
CE is abbreviated for Common Era and begins with year 1. The first year of the Common Era is also considered to be the year of the birth of Jesus. BCE (Before Common Era) is used to count the period before the birth of Jesus and CE is used to count the later period.
Usually, now BCE which replaced BC, and CE which replaced AD are used to count period.
